Equipment
- Mixing bowl
- Electric hand mixer or stand mixer
- Spatula
- Baking tray
- Parchment paper
Ingredients
- 4 large egg whites
- 1 cup shredded cheese, such as mozzarella, cheddar, or a blend
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon mixed Italian seasoning or mixed spices
- Optional: pinch of salt
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking tray with parchment paper.
- Place egg whites in a clean mixing bowl and beat until stiff peaks form.
- Add shredded cheese, garlic powder, mixed seasoning, and optional salt.
- Gently fold the mixture together using a spatula. Do not overmix or the egg whites may deflate.
- Scoop small portions onto the prepared baking tray and shape into rounded mounds.
- Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until lightly golden on top and set in the center.
- Let cool for 3-5 minutes before serving so they firm up slightly.
Notes
- This recipe is very low-carb, but not completely zero-carb because cheese and seasonings can contain small amounts of carbohydrates.
- Mozzarella gives a softer, bread-like texture, while cheddar gives a stronger cheesy flavor.
- Do not overmix after adding the cheese or the mixture will lose air and become flat.
- For extra garlic bread flavor, brush the tops with melted butter and parsley after baking.
- Best served fresh, as the texture may soften after refrigeration.
